In need of ideas for indoor support posts

I need ideas of what to do with support posts in our living area. Right now they are just 4 2x6's nailed together and I can't decide what to do with them. We have wood floors, brown walls, oak kitchen cabinets and slate entry way in an open floor plan. I would say the style is like cabin/contemporary cottage. I was thinking about covering them with stone or old slate but I am not sure, the stone might be too heavy. Thanks.
